  • CSP Tuning kit delayed

    • Although the production of the Tuning kit for the Clubsport pedals happened at the same time we were only able to ship it by UPS to USA.

For some starnge reason UPS refused to ship the Tuning kit to Europe due to the lubricants inside.

This means that we now had to take out the Tuning kit from our EU webshop until we can be sure when it will arrive. We probably have to use seafreight. At this point we cannot give an estimate how long it will take.

All customers who already ordered the CSP TKIT can get an immediate refund or just wait until the goods arrive. My apologies for that delay but we did not expect such weird rules from UPS.

  • PWTS Tech tips at SimHQ (VERY detailed!)

    • A big thanks to "Chunx" over at SimHQ which is a great source of simracing info.

He provides an incredible detailed list of how to adjust, fine-tune and modify your

      • Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel
      • Clubsport pedals
      • Sequential shifter
      • Wheel Stand

He is also suggesting some recommended settings for several games but of course this is always a matter of personal preference.

This info is very useful for all PWTS owners.

      Check it out:

  • PWC review by insidesimracing.tv

    • Darin and Shaun from insidesimracing.tv made a great and very detailed review about the revised and final Porsche 911 Carrera wheel (PWC).

To my surprise, Saun liked it a lot more than I expected and declares it his favourite Fanatec wheel.

While the PWGT3RS is dedicated to the PC simracers and the PWTS is still the top of the line multi platform wheel, the PWC is targeted to the serious PS3 and PC racer which wants all the essential features but is on a smaller budget.

These are the changes we have implemented in the last year:

      • Added ball bearing on the steering shaft
      • Full PS3 compatibility because of new electronics based on the PWTS
      • Adjustable linearity
      • Adjustable dead-zone
      • Adjustable steering angle from 90 to 900 in 10° steps (Please note that you can store 5 settings for your 5 favourite games)
      • silent gear drive
      • no cooling fans needed
      • compatible to CSP
      • upgradeable firmware

The wheel will be offerend in our webshop in a few weeks for 149,95 EUR or 159,95 USD as soon as we shipped them.

  • PWTS production has come to an end

    • We finished the production of the Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel after exactly 10.000 units.

During it's very short life cycle we made some changes after we found some issues on the very first units but other than that the production went smoothly as planned.

Many people has asked us what will come next but we have not decided yet to make another Xbox 360 wheel as this is a very expensive and complicated process and the market is limited.

There are still some units left in our warehouse so sales will continue until the stock is fully cleared. And we also reserved some units for Australia if we can finally get our distribution settled in down under.

Thanks to all customers who spread the word and let people know about the wheel. Considering 2 million sold copies of FM3 so far and another 2 million to be expected, only 0,25% to 0,5% of all FM3 players get the chance to play with a Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel. You have something very special in your hands.

  • 911 Carrera wheel production to start soon

    • I am currently in China and arranging the production of the new 911 Carrera wheel.

The wheel has been totally revised in the last months and we added a lot of new features which will be shown in the next episode of insidesimracing.tv

The production will start very soon and once the wheels are on the way we will make them available in our webshop.

As soon as the new review is online, I will post all the new features and pricing.

PS: I will bring a small surprise from China with me as well. Another little extra option for your Porsche wheels.

  • ClubSport Shifter: Initial Specs

    • Thanks for all the great input guys! This helped a lot and I am happy to tell you that we will be able to deliver almost everything you asked for. Here are the initial specs of the CSS:

Material: Full aluminium with some steel parts

Mounting options: There will be screw inserts on the bottom. We will make an adapter for the Clubsport table clamp and the RennSport Wheel Stand.

      Amount of gears: 7+1

Sequential option: We will implement it but only if this is not a compromise. We have a solution which could work very well in both modes

Haptic feeling: Very similar like in a real car. Perhaps we can even make the resistance adjustable.

Acoustic: A solid "clonck" instead of a "clack" but very silent

Colour/design: Silver as CSP. The shifter will be gated like in a Ferrari or Lamborghini

Style of gear knob: It will be exchangeable so upgrades are possible (leather, carbon, etc). The standard version will be an polished aluminum ball.

Size: We will try to keep the size of the PW shifter but it will probably become a bit higher

Compatibility: It will be backwards compatible to the Porsche wheel shifter and therefore compatible to all platforms. An USB adapter will be available optional to make it work with other wheels on PC.

Pricing: The target will be 99,95 € (incl VAT)/ 109,95 USD (excl. VAT)

Now we just have to make it happen. The target release date for the first prototypes is at the end of the year. We can announce a release date after we get the first test results.

  • NEW: PWTS Ultimate Edition announced
    • The production of the PWTS will end in April and the last units of the Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel will be available in a special offer which includes the PWTS Pure and the CSP at a special price of 399,90 EUR/USD.

The availabilit is limited, of course .

The owners of this version will get access to a special Firmware version which will have the following new features:

      • Adjustable steering axis linearity
      • Adjustable deadzone on steering axis
      • Adjust sensitivity settings in 10° steps
      • Min steering angle: 90°

The new FW is great for games (like GT5:P) which require a little deadzone. The adjustable linearity makes it possible to steer very precise around the center but get a quick reaction if you turn further. We will make this firmware public to existing PWTS owners at a later point.

      This product is real ;)

  • NEW: Racing controller for Apple's iGame console announced - Feedback wanted!

    • We are proud to announce that Fanatec is making the official controller for the new iGame console which has been finally confirmed today and will be released in early 2011.

Although the new console has more power than any other console on the market, it is a portable device. Therefore we designed a new wireless Force Feedback handheld controller with motion sensors.

We also make use of iGame's spectatcular head mounted 3D display.

The new controller will be launched with the game RealTrack in exactly one year so I cannot announce all details at the moment. RealTrack will allow you to scan your environment while driving in a car and immediatly play on the tracks you created.

Pricing is not confirmed yet but please let me know what features and pricing you want to have in this controller as we are still very early in the development phase.

EDIT: I made a mistake with the release date. It will probably be April 1st 2031

  • ClubSport HandBrake (CSHB) : Feedback wanted

    • After getting so much helpful and great comments about the Clubsport Shifter, I decided to let you knwo that we are also working on a handbrake for simracing.

BTW: Can somebody from the US explain why you call it "emergency brake"? I cannot think of a more stupid action than activating the handbrake in a critical situation.

So please give me your comments on:

      • material (body/grip)
      • mounting options
      • analog and/or digital
      • how strong
      • what travel
      • lever standing and/or lying
      • size
      • colours design
      • compatibility
      • pricing

We already have a prototype but it is not too late to make changes.

      Thanks for helping us!

  • PWTS Firmware 669

    • Here is a new version of the firmware for PWTS.

      Changes:

      • More driftmode settings (5)
      • For better cooling, the fans are turned on from the beginning at low speed and move faster when the temperature goes up.

As I said before, please upgrade only if you have problems. We do not give any warranty for update issues. So far we had not a single wheel which was screwed up after an update but if it happens, the wheel needs to be sent to us so we can repair it.

Hint: In case the update does not work, try this:

      • Close down ALL other programs, drivers, etc.
      • Choose a different USB port
      • de-install the USB driver of the wheel in bootloader mode and install the driver again.

  • PWTS, CSP and RSWS Review by SimHQ

    • Here is a very detailed test of the simracing specialist of SimHQ about:

      • Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel
      • Clubsport Pedals
      • RennSport Wheel Stand

There a lot of great quotes so it is hard for me to select one.

      What about this?

      "Somehow
mere words aren’t up to the task of describing the feel, feedback,
responsiveness and accuracy of this product. Quite simply, the wheel
      feels wonderful."

      or this?

      "Overall
the PWTS made RBR feel more "real" than any other wheel I’ve tried.
It’s just an opinion, but the PWTS quite simply comes closer than any other sim
racing controller to a feeling of true realism."

      about the CSP

      "The
Clubsport Pedals are so good, so precise that it’s hard to compare them with
other products. They are clearly in a class of their own."

      want more?

      "Once
you’ve set it up, the Rennsport Wheel Stand provides a surprisingly rock-stable
base for sim racing with a force feedback wheel. Whether the sim was rFactor,
Forza Motorsport 3 or Richard Burns Rally, the wheel stand held the PWTS / CSP
combo in firm position. In fact, it was more stable than the computer desk my
Logitech G27 wheel is attached to."

  • Fanatec teams up with GameStop Italy

    • I am happy to announce GameStop Italy is now selling Fanatec products in all of their shops in Italy.

GameStop Italy is the the biggest subsidary in Europe of GameStop with over 300 shops. This sounds small for US citizens but GameStop is the No. 1 in video games in Italy.

The following products are available from next week:

      Porsche 911 Turbo S whee

Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel Pure Edition

      ClubSports Pedals

      RennSport Wheel Stand

If this co-operation is succesful we would be very interested to expand it to other countries as well.

  • PWTS Firmware 660 released - UPDATE 2

    • We just released a new frimware for the Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel.

Please note that we can only recommend that you install the firmware if you experience problems. Updating the firmware of any device is always a risk if the update is interrupted somehow. Therefore we cannot take responsibility if something goes wrong.

      Changes:

      • Improved precision around the center for some wheels (not all wheels were affected)
      • FF and SHO values adjustable in 10% steps

Please note that we recommend to update the RF dongle only if you have any problems. Try first to update only the wheel.

PLEASE READ THE MANUAL AND FOLLOW IT!!!

Please let me know your Windows system version here in this blog post in case you made the update with or without success.

      UPDATE

If you have FF dropouts you must reduce the FF strength to 60. This is as strong as 100% in version 613. (Edit: This turned out to be false information)

We will release a new FW very soon to fix that.

I took off the 660 firmware in the meantime.

      UPDATE 2

As we could not verify the issues with the new firmware I decided to upload ver 660 again. I also included the previous ver 614 so you can load the old FW as soon as you have issues and compare.

  • Testers for Ultimate Wheel Comparison Wanted

    • We would like to make a community test comparison between the following wheels:

      • Logitech G27
      • Porsche 911 Turbo S Clubsport Edition
      • Porsche 911 GT3RS Clubsport edition

The testers will receive all 3 wheels for testing and of course we pay the freight in both directions.

If the tester wants to keep one of the Fanatec wheels he gets a discount of at least 50%. This is independent from the test results. The discount will be granted even if you already own the product. As a bonus, you will get pre-production version of a new product for free long before release.

The test should compare the strengths and weaknesses of each wheel and the tester has to rate the wheels according to a specific weighted rating scheme.

Minimum requirements to make the test:

      • Tester must race on at least a PC and PS3.
      • Ability to express yourself clear and in english language
      • Ability to take pictures and/or to make a video
      • Tester must be member of the911 wheel Club and has fully filled out the test registration form.
      • Tester must be located in EU or USA

      Advantages to get higher priority:

      • Beside the PC and PS3 you own a Xbox 360 as well
      • You are a well respected member of a big and established gaming community
      • You already made tests (post links)
      • You are a well known and respected simracer (console or PC)
      • You are in the top 100 ranking of the GT5 Time Trial demo (post time and country)
      • You are already a customer of Fanatec and perhaps own one of the wheels.
      • Commitment to make a video (20 min max)

All you need to do is to post this information in a comment to this post.

Please do not send me e-mails or PMs. Thank you. If I think that somebody is qualified I will contact him. You can also post proposals of testers which you think are qualified.

Please spread the word in your community about this test.

  • Tech Tip: PW all versions: Shaking in GT5

    • Some customers complain that the wheel is shaking on a straight road.

      Solution:

      • Make sure you  have sensivity set to OFF = 900°
      • Reduce the FF to 66 or 33.

The GT5 Demo is much better adapted to our wheel than GT5:P and therefore the shaking is almost non-existant if you follow these rules.

  • PW driver 103 pre-release

    • We have a new driver version available. This version is not fully tested yet.

       Changes:

      • Windows 7 tested
      • No more center calibration function for wheels which are supporting the calibration by hot key. This avoids a conflict between both calibration methods.
      • Reduced demand for system ressources. This increases the games framerate in several games like GT legends significantly.

  • PWTS 900° detection in FM3

    • We discovered a strange phenomenom with the wheel rotation.

FM3 works fine and detects the wheel as a 900° wheel if you have selected 900 in the SEN setting of the Tuning menu and if you start the Xbox console with the on/offf button on the console.

But in case you start the console by pressing the Xbox Guide Button on the wheel, the wheel detection of FM3 does not work properly and the wheel is recognized as 270° wheel. As the setting in the wheel is still 900 it will result in a very unsensitive wheel so you have to move the wheel a lot.

There are two ways to let FM3 go to the correct mode:

      1. Turn the wheel off and on again

      2. Change the SEN setting to 540 and back to 900

Please make sure you have the correct 900° mode activated because FM3 will work much better with it. Try it!

PS: In order to confuse you even more: If you start the game and in the Tuning menu you have selected anything other than 900, the game will detect the wheel as a 270° wheel. So if you select 540 the game will be even less sensitive than if you select the proper 900° mode. Got it?

My concern is that nobody understood that this is a comparison about the wheels itself without considering the pedals.

  • PWTS on Engagdet Show
    • Here is an interesting video about a competition in Silverstone.

      PWTS with FM3

      vs

      Johnny Herbert in a real 911 GT2

The vid was made very well although they need some assistance how to set up the monitors ;)

No idea if the result was fake or not but the track was obviously wet in real which is certainly a disadvantage which can cause 3 seconds.

  • Mod: PWTS converted to PWGT3RS

    • Mike made a great mod and took his 911 Turbo S and his 911 GT3 RS and exchanged the electronics so he can enjoy Alcantara leather on the Xbox 360.

This is the only wheel in the world like this but I guess I will try to mod one as well.

Just to be very clear: If you open the wheel and damage something, you risk to lose the warranty. (Sorry but we cannot take full responsibility for your mechanical skills. It is hard enough to control our own production)

Watch the videos for a detailed tutorial how he modded the wheels. It is also a good video to see how you open the wheels in general.

  • PWTS review: Neoseeker.com

      "We have
to thank the folks at Fanatec for giving us a run with their latest dose of
madness -- the 911 Turbo S defines what a solid racing wheel should be with
sleek looks and even the choice of interchanging parts with Logitech wheels.
The price may be steep for some racers with a tag of $499 for the Clubsport
Edition on the Fanatec Shop, but the wheel delivers on every cent invested with
great craftsmanship in the construction and rigid handling. Add onto this the
ability to play on the Playstation 3, PC and Xbox 360 and it starts to show why
it’s such a value, particularly with extremely limited inventory on the 360
      platform."

  • PWTS missing pedal adapters - UPDATE

    • We did not ship the first PWTS Pure versions with the pedal adapter and without the pedal cable so several customers could not use the PWTS Pure with the G25 pedals or MS Monaco pedals.

Following Murphy's law, we shipped a pedal adapter to those customers which only works with the G25.

If you have received a PWTS Pure and need an adaptor for the G25 we can supply one immediatly. Just contact our customer service please.

In case you want to connect the MS wheel I am happy to tell you that we solved the problem and currently producing new adapters. They will be sent to us by express and we will ship it to all customers which requested the adaptor for their Pure version. Shipment will take about 1-2 weeks until you get it.

      UPDATE

We will send new adapters today by UPS from China to our distribution centers in the US and Germany. We should be able to send them to customers by the end of week 46.

  • PWTS review by ConsoleGaming.EU

    • Here is a detailed review about the PWTS and RSWS:

      http://www.consolegaming.eu/newspost.php?id=295

      Overall rating 9,8 / 10

      "In
conclusion, the Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel, accompanied with the
RennSport Wheel Stand, is by far the best racing equipment that any console
gamer can have, in a house that won't be able to fit a fully sized cockpit!"

  • PWTS Manual & Quick guide UPDATE

    • Apparantly the first units of the PWTS come without a quick guide so it will be hard for you to figure out how to set it up.

      http://www.fanatec.de/download/pwts_support/pw_ts_quickguide.zip

Sorry for this but to print the manual would have delayed the shipment.

The full manual will follow next week. In the meantime you can check the PWGT3RS manual how the TUNING works.

      UPDATE

In the attached document who can see how to connect the RF dongle to the wheel in order to make it work. You can also see how to calibrate the shifters or the wheel center.

  • Great help from iRacing community solves an issue

    • Some users noticed that the PWGT3RS wheel disconnects after some playtime and you even hear the system sound which indicates that you plug off a USB device.

Mark Jeangerard and Thomas Detige found out that the root cause for this issue are wrong power management settings for USB devices.

"Also, many system come preset to conserve USB power by temporarily
cutting or disabling power to USB ports that are not actively in use.
This can often be problematic for USB drivers that run in the
background, since background tasks are not given power priority by the
OS. If you use USB interfaces or controllers, than you should disable
this power management scheme. Go to the Device Manager > Universal
Serial Bus Controllers > right-click on a "USB Root Hub" >
Properties > Power Management > deselect "Allow the computer to
turn off this device to save power" > press "OK." Repeat this
process for all USB Root Hubs in the Device Manager."

"For Win7 users, go to control panel > system and security > power
options. Click "change plan settings" next to the selected plan, which
is balanced by default. On the next screen, click "change advanced
power settings", look for "USB settings" in the list and put "Setting"
under "USB selective suspend setting" to "Disabled". This should
automatically deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power" on all USB root hubs power management tab, but you can
check it manually in the device manager to be sure. The USB power
saving feature should now still be disabled after rebooting."

Thanks a lot for the help!

  • PWTS: New features

    • We used the delay to implement a few new features which I am sure you will like a lot.

      1. USB connection cable

On PC/ PS3 you now have the option to choose between a wired or a wireless connection. This feature is standard on all versions of the wheel.

(If you now consider to cancel the order of your wireless dongle you are free to do so but please note that you need to cancel the complete order and reorder again due to technichal reasons.)

      2.  DriftMode

We now have the driftmode implemented into firmware so you can use it also on the consoles without the driver

      3. ABS vibration

In the firmware you can choose a percentage of brake force on which the vibration motors of the wheel and the CSP will be activated. This helps you to find the optimal brake force easily. Compatible to all games on all platforms!

I hope you like the features.

  • On the way to solve the bug with the non stopping curb vibration

    • We finally get our hands on a PC which shows this problem so we can reproduce it. This means we can now look for the root cause and solve it with an upcoming driver release.

This can still take several weeks but it will be solved. In the meantime we recommend to set the curb vibration to "0" in simbin sims. In rFactor there is no possibility to tweak the curb effects so it cannot be turned off.

Other sims dont show this problem.

Thanks to Michael for the PC!

  • PWTS production - UPDATE 25

    • We are now waiting for final approval from MS and already prepare production. As we will ship the first units by air shipment we are confident to deliver all open orders which have been ordered until June 2009  at the end of September. The rest of the open orders will be shipped in October and if you place an order now you can expect to get your product in November.

The schedule is still not 100% confirmed as there are many uncertainties. I will keep you up to date once we get the final approval and start manufacturing.

      UPDATE 15

All airfreight shipments (pre-june) have been shipped on last Wednesday (28.10.) and should arrive very soon at your house.

      UPDATE 16

      Post-June orders:

      EU:

      Ship Edith Marsk ETA 25.11.2009

      USA:

      Ship Mathilde Maersk ETA 13.11.2009

ETA: Is arrival date of the ship in the harbour. Then it needs to be unloaded and the goods go to customs clearance etc. It can still take 2 weeks from ETA until the wheel arrives at your door.

There are more containers on the way but these are the first to arrive. By middle of December we should have all inventory for the open orders in our warehouse.

We are currently lacking some raw materials but we plan to finish the production of the 10.000 units within the next 8 weeks.

      UPDATE 17

Here is a little bit more detail what is on the way.

      EU

The first containers will arrive on 25th of Nov. and we
will ship all open PWTS orders a week later to our customers.

The Pure and Clubsport editions ordered until September
will also be delivered with this shipment. Please don't ask for a precise cut-off date because we cannot tell you.

All other open ordes will be delivered in the second
shipment which arrives on the 2nd of December.

      USA

The first shipment will arrive on the 13th of Nov. and will ship one week later to customers.

The first shipment will contain all PWTS (all versions) ordered until late September.

The rest will arrive in the second shipment which will land on the 20th of Nov and will be shipped out to customers one week later.

Shipment from our warehouse in CA to your door depends on where you live.

It will even be enough to have some stock but I am sure it will not last very long.

The only part which is delayed are the standard pedals which are bought separatly. I will update you later on those.

      UPDATE 18

The fist container  arrived in the USA but the shipment got stuck in customs. They thought that the prducts might be pirated so now we have to proof that we have the authorisation to use the Xbox and Porsche logos.

The container in the EU will arrive in time next Wednesday.

      UPDATE 19

The standard pedals for PWTS which have been ordered separatly have not been shipped with the sea shipments unfortunatly. We will send them out from China by the end of next week by airfreight so you should have them with some delay.

The Pure versions do come with pedal adapters now so please use G25 or MS pedals in the meantime if possible.

      UPDATE 20

We received the authorisation letter from MS today and hope that customs will release the US shipment very soon.

      UPDATE 21

With the second shipments we can still fullfil all open orders.

      EU

First containers have arrived. We expect to get the goods by end of next week in our warehouse.

The second ship (Estelle Marsk) will arrive on Dec 2nd.

      http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/datasheet.aspx?SHIPNAME=estelle+maersk&TYPE_SUMMARY=&PORT_ID=&menuid=&datasource=SHIPS_CURRENT&app=&B1=Search

      USA

The first containers should be shipped to customers early week 49.

The second shipment (Maersk Antares) has arrived as well and we wait for customs clearance.

      UPDATE 22

The second shipments have arrived in EU and USA and by the end of this week (week 50) we will send out all open orders.

Only a few PWTS Pure customers did receive a defective adapter or we did not ship the adapter cable. If you are affected please contact our e-support and we will send you a new adapter. (Please make sure you conenct it to the right plug and only connect it when the wheel is power off)

The delivery of PWTS in USA was just enough to fullfill the orders so the next delivery will be in January.

In EU we have PWTS in stock.

We also have PWTS Pure and the Clubsport pedals in stock now for immediate shipment in EU and USA.

The PWTS Clubsport Edition is about to be sold out within a few days as we are reaching the maximum number of its limited edition and we will stop offering this model very soon.

      Thank you very much!

      UPDATE 23

The standard pedals which have been ordered separatly are on the way by airfreight to USA and EU and will be shipped out in week 51.

      UPDATE 24

Several PWTS Clubsport editions have been shipped without the RF dongle and the shifter set.

We are aware of that and we will ship all missing items. We just decided that instead of waiting until those parts arrive, we better send out the wheels and pedals first. The RF dongles will be shipped next week but I am still waiting for info on the shifters.

      UPDATE 25

As all pre-orders have been shipped, i decided to change the publishing options of this post so it does not stick on the front page anymore.

  • Kane tests a new weapon

    • Kane, the most evil guy on the universe tries out the PWGT3RS mounted on the new RennSport e-motion cockpit if he can use it to kill innocent spectators on racing tracks.

As he was not able to kill somebody he was obviously dissapppointed so there will never be a NOD racing wheel made by Fanatec.
